Teen's Deadly Dorm Fire Started Over Seized Phone

A 14-year-old student at Mahdia Secondary School in Guyana set the dormitory on fire after her cellphone was confiscated when she was reprimanded for having an affair with an older man. The fire killed 19 children, including a five-year-old boy, and injured six others. The student suspected of starting the fire was among the injured. The dormitory had five doors and plenty of windows, but they were grilled with iron bars, preventing the girls from escaping. The Guyanese government has accepted offers from the United States to send experts and forensic teams to aid with the investigation.
