A year-long study commissioned by the Swiss Conference of Bishops and led by two University of Zurich historians has revealed over 1,000 cases of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in Switzerland since the mid-20th century. The majority of those accused were male, and nearly three-fourths of the cases involved minors. The report highlights the widespread nature of the abuse, with incidents occurring during pastoral care, in schools, homes, and boarding schools. The study also found evidence of cover-ups and transfers of accused clerics to avoid prosecution.
