UK PM Sunak's Conservatives face double defeat in local and international elections

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Conservatives lost the Mid-Bedfordshire by-election to Labour candidate Alistair Strathern, overturning a Conservative majority of over 24,000. This marks the second previously safe parliamentary seat lost by the Conservatives in England. Mid-Bedfordshire had consistently elected Conservative members of parliament since 1931.
