UK Parliament Approves Tough Illegal Migration Bill

The UK's Illegal Migration Bill, which seeks to prevent asylum seekers arriving in small boats across the Channel from claiming asylum and deport them to their homeland or safe third countries, has been approved by the House of Commons. The bill will now pass to the House of Lords, where it could be amended or delayed. The government accepted several amendments from rebel Conservatives, including clarifying the limited circumstances in which unaccompanied children could be deported and a commitment to set out the "safe and legal routes" for asylum seekers to reach Britain.
