Tensions Rise Between Kosovo and Serbia Amid EU Pressure and Calls for Fresh Elections.

The presidents of Kosovo and Serbia met briefly in Moldova under pressure from France and Germany to resolve a political crisis that has led to violence. The EU and the US have expressed concern over the latest crisis between Kosovo's ethnic Albanian-dominated government and ethnic Serbs who are a majority in the north. Violence erupted after Kosovo authorities installed ethnic Albanian mayors in offices in northern municipalities. The clashes wounded 30 NATO peacekeeping troops and 52 Serb protesters. The leaders of France and Germany have called for new elections in the four northern municipalities with Serb participation "as soon as possible".
