Sudan's Rival Military Factions Meet Face-to-Face for First Time in Saudi Arabia Talks.
Sudan's rival military factions, the Sudanese army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF), are meeting in person for the first time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for "pre-negotiation" talks organized by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. The two countries have urged the factions to resolve the conflict and ensure that humanitarian aid can safely reach affected areas. The factions agreed to a week-long ceasefire in anticipation of the talks, which started on Thursday. The power struggle over who gets to run the resource-rich nation of Sudan has been brewing for months, and since April, over 500 people have been killed and about 4,500 others have been injured by the conflict.
