Taiwan's ruling party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has been hit by a wave of sexual harassment allegations, with nearly two dozen high-profile political figures accused in the past week. The accusations have also affected the main opposition party, the Kuomintang (KMT). The #MeToo movement has exposed the deeply patriarchal norms that still govern Taiwanese society, and while these accusations have played out in the court of public opinion, in formal legal proceedings they are unlikely to succeed.
