Conservative MP Marco Longhi has pledged to pursue a law that would provide better protection for heritage venues, following the demolition of the 18th Century Crooked House pub near Dudley after a fire. Longhi expressed his desire for a "Crooked House law" to prevent similar incidents and stated that the current legislative framework is inadequate in protecting historic pubs and buildings. The fire, which is being treated as arson, has prompted South Staffordshire Council to consider enforcement action. Residents at a public meeting expressed support for the pub to be rebuilt, while the MP plans to raise the issue with Secretary of State Michael Gove in September.
