Honduras establishes embassy in China, severs ties with Taiwan.

Honduras has opened an embassy in Beijing, months after breaking off diplomatic ties with Taiwan to form relations with China. The embassy's inauguration was attended by the foreign ministers of both countries. Honduran President Xiomara Castro is on a six-day visit to China, during which she visited the headquarters of the New Development Bank and a research center for Huawei. The establishment of formal relations with China in March was a diplomatic victory for Beijing amid heightened tensions with the US and signaled China's growing influence in Latin America.
