Finnish Officials Apologize for Racist Remarks

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo considers the apology from Deputy Prime Minister Riikka Purra for her racist remarks to be sufficient, despite opposition calls for a confidence vote. Purra, who is also the finance minister, faced criticism for making racist and violent comments about Black people and demeaning remarks about the poor in writings from 15 years ago. The scandal, the third involving the far-right Finns Party to hit the Finnish government recently, has caused turmoil within the right-wing coalition. Orpo emphasized zero tolerance for racism but expressed his continued trust in Purra, stating that the government's stability was not in question as she had apologized.
