China's Proposed Laws: Patriotic Education and Food Security

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee has said that the city will "comply" with China's proposed patriotic education law, aimed at enhancing citizens' sense of national identity. Lee added that regardless of whether the law is applicable to Hong Kong, the government would comply with its requirements. The proposed law includes requirements for different groups, including Hong Kong and Macau residents, to strengthen their recognition of traditional culture and consciously maintain the unity of the country. The move comes after Hong Kong introduced national security education for children aged six or above in 2021, which included teaching the four offences outlawed by the Beijing-imposed security legislation.
