Belgium's Security Measures Strengthened Following Brussels Attack

The Belgian federal government has announced five short-term security measures in response to the recent attack in Brussels, including the appointment of a new justice minister, Paul Van Tigchelt. The measures aim to strengthen the country's security apparatus and ensure a coordinated response to potential threats. The public prosecutor's office in Brussels will receive additional magistrates, the federal judicial police will be reinforced, and the railway police will receive more officers. Two committees will analyze the adequacy of security procedures, and information sharing between immigration, police, and judiciary will be improved. The measures come after the resignation of Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne, who took responsibility for the failure to act on an extradition request related to the attacker.
