Devastating Earthquake Strikes Ecuador and Peru, Leaving Death and Destruction in its Wake.

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Ecuador's Pacific coast, killing at least 15 people and injuring over 445 others. The quake damaged and brought down hundreds of homes and buildings in coastal areas and the highlands. Many of the homes that crumbled were old, did not meet modern building standards, and were inhabited by poor people. Ecuador is particularly vulnerable to earthquakes, and in 2016, a quake centered farther north on the Pacific Coast killed more than 600 people.
