Mayon volcano eruption forces thousands to evacuate in the Philippines.

Nearly 15,000 people have been displaced from their homes around the Mayon volcano in the northeastern Philippines, which has been spewing lava and noxious gases. The volcano was placed on high alert last week after tremors and hundreds of rockfalls. Authorities warn that the volcanic activity may persist for a few months, and residents living within 6km of the volcano may remain displaced for that time. Mayon is the most active of 24 known volcanoes in the Philippine archipelago and last erupted in 2018, displacing tens of thousands of people.
