US Navy Destroys Missiles and Drones for 9 Hours; President Biden Orders Reinforced Military Presence

The USS Carney, a U.S. Navy destroyer, engaged in a nine-hour battle off the coast of Yemen, shooting down four cruise missiles and 15 drones, which is more than initially reported. The missiles were fired by Houthi rebels and were en route to Israel. This marks the first attempt by any group in Yemen to strike at Israel since the recent terror attacks by Hamas. The Pentagon has not attributed the other recent drone attacks in Iraq and Syria to any specific group. The Houthis, who receive support from Iran, remain in conflict with a Saudi-led intervention force. The USS Carney used SM-2 surface-to-air missiles to intercept the missiles and drones over the water.
