Tragedy Strikes as Migrant Boats Sink off Italy's Coast, Leaving Death and Disappearance

Two migrant ships have wrecked off the coast of Lampedusa, resulting in two confirmed deaths and around 30 missing people. The Italian Coast Guard has rescued 57 people so far. Italy is facing a significant increase in migrant arrivals by sea, with nearly 92,000 arrivals this year compared to 43,000 during the same period last year. The boats are believed to have come from Tunisia, where a migration crisis is ongoing. Italian authorities conducted complex rescue operations, and over 2,000 people arrived in Lampedusa in the past few days. Charity ships are assigned far-away ports, increasing navigational costs and the suffering of survivors.
