Spain's Maritime Rescue Service has rescued 86 people sailing in a canoe-like vessel, but it is unclear if they are from one of the three boats carrying roughly 300 migrants from Senegal to the Canary Islands that have been missing for 15 days. Spanish authorities have alerted boats in the area to remain on the lookout for other missing migrant vessels. The Atlantic migration passage is one of the deadliest routes, with at least 951 migrants dying while trying to reach Spain by sea in the first half of 2023.
