Hong Kong Court Denies Jimmy Lai's Bid to Dismiss Sedition Charge

A Hong Kong court has rejected a bid to drop the sedition charge against pro-democracy tycoon Jimmy Lai, founder of the now-shuttered Apple Daily newspaper. Lai's lawyer argued that the charge should be dismissed as it was not laid within the required six-month timeframe, but the court ruled that the charge was a continuing offense and therefore not subject to the time limit. Lai also faces two conspiracy charges under the national security law imposed by China. The trial, which has garnered international attention, has been adjourned until January 2.
