Supreme Court to Hear Gyanvapi Plea on Survey Today

The Supreme Court will hear a contempt petition filed by the Gyanvapi mosque management committee against the Varanasi district court's order for an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey of the mosque complex. The order excluded the ablution pond area, which has been sealed on the apex court's order. The mosque committee filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, citing a stay on the survey by the Allahabad High Court. The SLP argues that the district court's order is contemptuous of the Supreme Court's stay order. The ASI has been given until August 4 to file its report.
