IAEA Provides Updates on Ukraine's Nuclear Plant Water Supply Amid Dam Collapse Risk
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will provide assistance to Ukraine in dealing with the consequences of the recent dam disaster, which has caused a rapid drop in the water levels of the Kakhovka reservoir that supplies cooling water to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The IAEA will use its expertise in nuclear science to assess the effects on potable water, human health, and soil and water management, and to assess the integrity of critical infrastructure. The ZNPP is carefully monitoring the condition of the dyke surrounding the large cooling pond, and the IAEA is concerned about the safety and security of Europe's largest nuclear power plant due to increased military activities in the area.
