Trapped in a Moscow 'Gilded Cage': Reporting on World War II from The Red Hotel.

"The Red Hotel" by Alan Philps tells the story of Western journalists who were largely confined to Moscow's Metropol Hotel as they attempted to cover the Soviet side of World War II. Journalists were required to live and work under constant scrutiny at the Metropol Hotel, just a couple of blocks from the Kremlin. They were force-fed Soviet propaganda and faced heavy-handed military censorship before any of their stories could be sent to their publications back home.
