Pope Francis undergoes successful three-hour surgery.

Pope Francis underwent a three-hour long surgery for an incisional laparocele (hernia) that was causing recurrent, painful and worsening sub-occlusive syndromes. The surgery, which involved a laparotomy and plastic surgery for the abdominal wall with prosthesis, was completed without complications. The Pope will remain in hospital for several days to allow for a normal post-operative course and full functional recovery.
