Guatemala Government Webpages Targeted by Pro-Democracy Hackers

Hackers affiliated with the activist group Anonymous launched distributed denial-of-service attacks on multiple government webpages in Guatemala, in support of ongoing protests led by Indigenous organizations. The attacks were aimed at demanding the resignation of Guatemalan Attorney General Consuelo Porras, who is accused of undermining the popular vote that elected progressive Bernardo Arévalo as the president-elect. The government has labeled the hacking as a national security incident and is responding to the attacks.
