Ex-junta leader Camara escapes prison in armed jailbreak

Former Guinea military junta leader Moussa Dadis Camara, along with three other high-ranking officers, was freed from prison by heavily armed men in Conakry. Shots were heard in the capital, and military vehicles and special forces were seen patrolling the streets. Guinea's borders have been closed to prevent the escapees from leaving the country. Camara and others have been on trial for their alleged involvement in a stadium massacre and mass rape in 2009. Guinea is currently governed by military leader Mamady Doumbouya, who came to power in a coup in 2021.
