Former Indian MP Atiq Ahmed shot dead on live TV while in police custody.

Former Indian MP Atiq Ahmed, who was serving a life sentence in jail, and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead by three men posing as journalists outside a hospital in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The attack was broadcast live on TV and the assailants surrendered to police after the shooting. The Ahmed brothers were notorious gangsters accused of running a crime syndicate embroiled in murder and extortion. Uttar Pradesh has a reputation for criminality and nearly half the ministers, including the chief minister, have pending criminal cases against them.
