Deadly armed attack in Guayaquil port leaves 10 dead

At least 10 people were killed and three others were wounded, including a five-year-old girl, in an armed attack in Guayaquil, Ecuador's main port city and economic hub. The attack occurred at a mechanic shop in the city's southwest and is believed to be related to a struggle between organized criminal groups over territorial control. Guayaquil has become a centre of a turf war between rival drug-trafficking gangs, and the killing is the latest in a recent surge of violence. The city has been under a state of emergency since April 1, and civilians have been authorized to carry and use guns for personal defence.
