British Man Released by Cyprus Authorities Despite 2-Year Prison Sentence for Wife's Death

A British man, David Hunter, has been sentenced to two years in prison by a Cyprus court for killing his ailing wife to spare her from pain. However, he was released immediately due to the time he had already spent behind bars. The court accepted that Hunter acted out of love and made the decision to suffocate his wife on the spur of the moment. Hunter's wife was suffering from a blood ailment, and she had repeatedly asked him to end her life to avoid the fate of her sister who died from the disease. The court found no evidence of premeditation and took into account Hunter's advanced age and lack of criminal record.
