Sudan Crisis: Over 1 Million Flee as Situation Deteriorates

The number of Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries has exceeded one million, with over four million people displaced within Sudan or as refugees. The war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has devastated the capital, Khartoum, and triggered ethnically driven attacks in Darfur, leading to a protracted civil war and regional instability. The lack of food, medical supplies, and vital services within Sudan is causing deaths, while rampant looting and infrastructure damage have left millions without power, water, and communication services. Human rights violations, including sexual assaults, have been reported, and the death toll is believed to be much higher than official estimates. Efforts to negotiate a ceasefire have stalled, and funding for humanitarian aid appeals remains critically low. The UN agencies are calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and safe access to provide aid.
