Myanmar's Anti-Junta Offensive: A Deepening Humanitarian Crisis

Myanmar's Three Brotherhood Alliance, a coalition of ethnic armies, secretly planned and launched Operation 1027, a major offensive against the junta that seized power in a coup earlier this year. The offensive, which began in October, has posed the most significant threat to the regime and has resulted in nationwide victories for the alliance and other rebel groups. The operation was facilitated by the formation of a unified battlefield brigade, Brigade 611, comprising troops from different ethnic armed forces. China's frustration with the junta's inability to shut down online scam centers along the border, which have become a security concern, may have emboldened the rebels. Despite setbacks, the Myanmar military remains determined to prevail, while anti-junta operations have expanded to other parts of the country.
