Sudan's Power Struggle Sparks Violence and Ceasefire Reports

Violence has erupted in Darfur, Sudan, as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, and the Sudanese army engage in a power struggle. The RSF, which was formed in 2013 by former President Omar al-Bashir, is now fighting against the army that was its parent. The conflict has caused significant civilian casualties, and the humanitarian situation could deteriorate quickly if the international community does not monitor the situation closely. The rebel groups, Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and Sudanese Liberation Army of Minnie Minnawi (SLA-MM), who had previously fought against the RSF and the army in Darfur, are now in a position to tip the balance of power.
