Deadly Al-Shabaab attacks rock Somalia's capital.

Al-Shabaab militants attacked a beachside hotel in Mogadishu, killing six civilians and three security force members. The attackers were killed by security forces who rescued 84 civilians from the hotel. Al-Shabaab aims to topple the central government and establish a rule based on its strict interpretation of Islam’s Sharia law. The group controlled a vast area of Somalia before being pushed back by government counteroffensives since last year.
