Controversially Euthanized Walrus Honored with Life-Size Sculpture in Norway

A bronze sculpture of a walrus named Freya, who became a popular attraction in Oslo before being euthanized by authorities, has been unveiled at the Oslo marina. The life-size sculpture was created by Norwegian artist Astri Tonoian and was funded through a crowdfunding campaign that raised about 270,000 Norwegian kroner ($25,000). The sculpture honors the 600-kilogram mammal that became a global celebrity last year after it was seen frolicking and basking in an Oslo fjord.
