Trans rights and representation in Montana politics face setbacks.

David Gianforte, the son of Montana's Republican governor, Greg Gianforte, lobbied his father against three bills affecting transgender Montanans and the LGBTQ+ community. David, who identifies as nonbinary, met with his father in March to discuss Senate Bill 99, a ban on gender-affirming health care for minors; Senate Bill 458, a bill to define sex as strictly binary in Montana code; and House Bill 359, a ban on drag performances in many public spaces. The bills have largely passed along party lines, with Republicans supporting the legislation and Democrats opposing.
