Preparing for Influx of Migrants at the Border

Cities across the US are preparing for a surge of migrants following the expiration of a pandemic-era immigration policy on Thursday. The Biden administration is lifting a Trump-enacted policy known as Title 42 that allowed officials to turn away people at the border for years on public health grounds. U.S. officials have said they expect as many as 13,000 people a day to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, many seeking asylum. The expected surge has local leaders warning that they’re not equipped to welcome them and pleading with the federal government to launch a national resettlement strategy.
