The US House of Representatives is set to vote on Louisiana congressman Mike Johnson as the fourth Republican nominee for Speaker, following the withdrawal of the previous candidate, Tom Emmer, after criticism from Donald Trump. Johnson, a lawyer and former talk radio host, received 128 votes in the internal party ballot, but it remains uncertain if he can secure the 217 votes needed to win. The House has been without a Speaker since Kevin McCarthy was ousted on 3 October, and if Johnson fails to secure enough support, Republicans will have to restart the selection process.
