Chicago's 2023 Mayoral Election: Results and Takeaways

Brandon Johnson has been elected as the new mayor of Chicago, defeating Paul Vallas in a tight race. Johnson's support grew tremendously between the February 28 election and Tuesday's victory, claiming a huge swathe of the South Side, the West Side, and large portions of the North Side. Johnson, a former teacher and Cook County commissioner, was backed heavily by the Chicago Teachers Union and has promised to push progressive policies. Vallas conceded to Johnson on Tuesday night but said he'll support the mayor-elect as he transitions into the role.
