"Deadly Avalanche Strikes California Ski Resort Amid Winter Storm"

An avalanche struck a section of expert trails at Palisades Tahoe ski resort near Lake Tahoe, killing one person and injuring three others. The avalanche occurred as a major storm with snow and gusty winds moved into the region, prompting the resort to close. The debris field was 150 feet wide, 450 feet long, and 10 feet deep. The victim was identified as Kenneth Kidd, 66, and the cause of the avalanche is under investigation. Palisades Tahoe, the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, is on the western side of Lake Tahoe, about 40 miles from Reno, Nevada.
