Historic rainfall causes severe flooding in South Florida.

Fort Lauderdale and parts of South Florida are experiencing severe flooding due to a once-in-a-half-century rainfall event, with 10 to 14 inches of rain falling across the area and an additional two to four inches possible. A flash flood emergency has been issued for portions of South Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, with the National Weather Service warning of a particularly dangerous situation and urging people to move to higher ground. The flooding has led to impassable roadways, abandoned vehicles, and the closure of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
