Snowmobile Crash Lawsuit: Man Sues Government for $9.5M

Jeff Smith, who crashed his snowmobile into a parked Black Hawk helicopter, is suing the government for $9.5 million in damages to cover medical expenses and lost wages. He argues that the crew of the helicopter was negligent for parking on a rarely used airfield also used by snowmobilers and failing to warn of the helicopter's presence. The government has attempted to dismiss the case, claiming it can't be sued under the Federal Tort Claims Act and pushing back on claims they could have prevented the accident. Smith, who suffered severe injuries in the crash, hopes to win the lawsuit to pay for a procedure that would improve movement in his left arm.
