Child Labor Uncovered: Dozens of Minors Discovered in Ohio Poultry Plant

Federal agents discovered over two dozen minors, mainly from Guatemala, working illegally in a poultry plant in Kidron, Ohio. The children were employed in meat processing and sanitation at Gerber's Poultry, which produces Amish Farm Chicken. The Department of Labor and FBI were involved in the operation, which temporarily shut down traffic in and out of the plant. No arrests were made, and it remains unclear which company handles the plant's sanitation. Child labor in the United States has seen a significant increase, particularly among Guatemalan youth working in meatpacking and sanitation. Some children may have been forced to work by unrelated adults who take their wages, while others voluntarily seek employment to earn money for themselves.
