Mysterious, Deadly Dog Disease Spreads in Western Washington, Prompting Concerns

A mysterious respiratory disease called atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC) is spreading among dogs in Western Washington, with 16 reports and two confirmed cases so far. Most dogs are said to be recovering, but a small portion may experience serious illness. The Washington State Department of Agriculture advises fully vaccinating pets, avoiding group settings, keeping pets away from sick dogs, washing hands, and contacting a vet if symptoms appear. The disease, which first surfaced in August 2023, has also spread to other states but has not affected humans.
