Colbert tapped to write new Lord of the Rings sequel focusing on Sam, Merry, and Pippin

Stephen Colbert will write a new Lord of the Rings film as a sequel to the original trilogy, teaming with his screenwriter son Peter McGee and consulting with Philippa Boyens and Warner Bros. The project adapts parts of The Fellowship of the Ring and follows hobbits Sam, Merry and Pippin retracing their first steps after Frodo Baggins’s death, with the film slated to move forward this summer.
