Darryl George, a Black high school student in Texas, has been suspended and will be sent to an alternative education program for not cutting his dreadlocks, which the school claims violates the dress code. The family has filed a complaint and a civil rights lawsuit, alleging that the suspension violates the state's CROWN Act, which prohibits hair discrimination. The school district has also filed a lawsuit seeking clarification on whether their dress code restrictions violate the CROWN Act. This is not the first time the school has faced controversy over its dress code, as two other Black male students were previously told to cut their dreadlocks.
