Final Stage Reached: Rescue Mission for 41 Trapped Indian Workers in Tunnel

The final stages of a rescue operation are underway in northern India to free 41 construction workers who have been trapped in a collapsed tunnel for nearly two weeks. Progress was delayed when a drilling machine was damaged, but it has since resumed. About 12 meters of additional drilling are left before a passageway can be forged for the workers. Once completed, rescue teams plan to insert and weld together pipes that will serve as the workers' route to freedom. Ambulances are on standby at the site for their evacuation.
