Tragic Crash Claims Lives of Off-Duty LAPD Officer and Passenger in Suspected DUI Incident

An off-duty LAPD officer and a passenger were killed when their car was struck by a BMW traveling at over 100 mph in a possible DUI crash. The BMW driver ran a red light before the collision, shearing off a hydrant and sending one of the cars into an apartment. The 20-year-old driver was arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. Three other people, including an off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy, were hospitalized. The officer, survived by his fiancée and two young sons, had just under five years on the job.
