Oklahoma Executes Man for 1996 University Dance Student Killing

Oklahoma executed Anthony Sanchez for the 1996 rape and murder of University of Oklahoma dance student Juli Busken. Sanchez, who maintained his innocence, chose not to present a clemency application. DNA evidence from the crime scene matched him while he was serving time for burglary. The execution proceeded despite a request for a stay from his new lawyer, and the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the request. Sanchez's conviction was based on DNA evidence, ballistic evidence, and a shoe print found at the crime scene. This is the third execution in Oklahoma this year, and the state's next scheduled execution is on November 30.
