French Court Convicts Six Teenagers for Beheading Teacher Samuel Paty

Six French teenagers have been convicted in connection with the 2020 beheading of history teacher Samuel Paty, who was murdered after showing his students caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in a class on freedom of expression. Among those on trial was a teenage girl who falsely accused Paty of asking Muslim pupils to leave the room before showing the caricatures. The court found her guilty of false accusation charges and slanderous comments. The other adolescents were found guilty of participating in a pre-meditated criminal conspiracy and helping to prepare an ambush. The heaviest sentence was a 6-month prison sentence, which can be served at home under electronic surveillance. Another trial involving adults is set to take place next year.
