"Fentanyl Exposure at Bronx Day Care Leads to Federal Charges and Child's Death"

The owner of a Bronx day care and a tenant are now facing federal charges after the death of a 1-year-old child who was exposed to fentanyl at the facility. Grei Mendez, the day care owner, and Carlisto Acevedo Brito have been charged with narcotics possession with intent to distribute resulting in death and conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death. The defendants allegedly maintained large quantities of fentanyl at the day care, where four children under the age of three, including the deceased child, suffered from fentanyl exposure. The defendants attempted to cover up the overdoses, and investigators discovered video evidence of someone leaving the day care while the children were in distress.
