Federal Charges Filed in Fentanyl Death at Bronx Day Care

The two suspects arrested in the death of a 1-year-old at a Bronx day care facility are now facing federal charges after authorities found enough fentanyl to kill 500,000 people. Three other children were hospitalized after being exposed to the drug. The suspects, Grei Mendez and Carlisto Acevedo Brito, are accused of running a drug operation from the day care center. The federal charges include conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death and possession with intent to distribute narcotics resulting in death, carrying a potential sentence of 20 years to life in prison.
