Ex-police chief sentenced to 11 years for spreading Jan. 6 conspiracy theories and participating in Capitol riot

Former California police chief Alan Hostetter, who participated in the U.S. Capitol attack, spread conspiracy theories about the January 6th incident, and called for the execution of Trump's political enemies, has been sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison. Hostetter was found guilty on charges including conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and disorderly conduct on restricted grounds. He represented himself during the trial and claimed that the attack was staged. Hostetter's sentencing hearing included his mention of conspiracy theories promoted by GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and the release of Jan. 6 footage by House Speaker Mike Johnson. Prosecutors sought more than 12.5 years in prison, describing Hostetter as a "poster child for January 6 conspiracy theories."
